Growing in God’s Word as we learn to live in imitation of Christ.
The word disciple comes from the Greek word mathētēs, which in turn derives from manthano, and describes someone who learns from another person through instruction. Mathētēs carries the sense of someone who learns intentionally through inquiry and observation. For Christians, this takes place through inductive Bible study. Mathētēs means more than simply a student: it describes a teacher’s follower. In fact, one can only be a mathētēs in the company of a didaskalos (a teacher or instructor), to whom, since the time of the Sophists, the mathētēs generally had to pay a fee.
Recognizing the need for every new believer to learn to live in imitation of Christ, the Church of Christ in Gazcue is grateful, by God’s grace, to make its discipleship program available to everyone. It is open both to local members and to anyone who feels the need to take part.
In the New Testament, being a disciple of Jesus means hearing His voice, remaining in His Word and following Him in daily life. It is not only about gathering religious information, but about a relationship of learning, obedience and transformation: the Master shapes the character, priorities and mission of the one who follows Him.
That is why this program walks through concrete steps: first days in the faith, witness, hearing God, prayer and discipleship growth. Each resource invites you to study, practice and share what you learn in community, so formation does not stay on the page but is lived out in Gazcue and beyond.
